What to see and do in Sillustani?

The archaeological complex of Sillustani is located 34 Km away from the city of Puno. On this amazing tour allows visitors to enjoy stunning highland landscapes and imposing pre-Inca architecture, on the esplanade of a peninsula surrounded by the waters of the lagoon Umayo.

Itinerary

We will pick you up at the hotel at 13:50 pm. To depart from the city of Puno towards the northwest to the Chullpas of Sillustani (40 min travel time). After arriving at the complex of Sillustani, our tour guide will explain about this Chullpas. These towers from the pre-Inca and Inca period have different shapes and heights, and some reach up to 12 meters (39 feet). They are burial towers where the religious followers would bury their leaders.

How was the process of construction? The first stage of the work began by placing the initial row of stones of the protective wall then construct the funeral chamber to its desired height late, the rest of the row of stone of the outer wall were placed until the chambers were covered. After having placed the first row of stones ramps were built at the side of the Chullpa for moving the larger stones into place. Once the work was finished the ramps. Were removed and a process of finishing the stones began. This process used materials like wet sand and porous texture stone to abrade the stones to shape and smoothness.

You will have free time for take a pictures, end our tour in the city of Puno at 17:40 hours.
